ALL YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT CDA (CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY)

After Pakistan gained its independence, Karachi was chosen as the country’s capital, but due to numerous problems, the administration thought that Karachi didn’t meet the criteria for a capital city. One of the problems the administration had to deal with was the port city’s insufficient and subpar quantity of structures. Climate and pressure from society, politics, and the economy were two additional difficulties the city was dealing with at the time. The port city’s layout and development were not appropriate for managing the surge of people migrating as a result of independence or carrying out the responsibilities of a capital.

Building a new capital was the only practical solution, which would entail The only option that could be planned and developed in accordance with government requirements was to build new capital. After conducting an extensive investigation, the ideal location for the new capital city was found, and it was given the name Islamabad. The then-governing body of Pakistan moved to Islamabad from Karachi exactly 20 years later. Additionally, an executive order was passed to establish a company to oversee the development, planning, and upkeep of the capital city’s infrastructure. The CDA law, which was published on June 27, 1960, replaced the executive order by establishing the authority’s foundational powers, duties, and jurisdiction.

Duties OF CDA

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is Islamabad’s top civic body, in charge of urban planning, construction, and upkeep. In accordance with the CDA Ordinance of 1960, it is also responsible for coordinating with other agencies, such as the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) and the administration of the Islamabad Capital Territory, to establish uniformity in the planning and development of the capital.

The second goal of the CDA Ordinance of 1960 was to give CDA permission to carry out additional duties, such as municipal, health, cleanliness, education, and the provision of commodities. A few years after the construction of Pakistan’s new capital city, CDA developed a model school and hospital specifically for this purpose.
